Poster Design January 28, 2011

-The poster on the left uses the “z” pattern in its design. Your eye first comes in on the 10 cents signs because of its white background. Your eye is then drawn to the soda bottle which carries your eye down at an angle and your eye comes to rest on the ‘ice cold’ sign.(making a ‘z’ pattern.) The poster also has a visual center of the 10 cents sign since that is what your eye is first drawn to.

-The poster on the right is mainly using a strong visual center, which is the camera the man is holding. Because of the color contrast your eye is first drawn there. This then brings you to look at his eyes and then the sign above his head. and then finally the lettering at the bottom of his shirt. So you are also sort of making a ‘z’ pattern with your eyes but it is not a true ‘z’.

Shepard Fairey January 20, 2011

I like Shepard Fairey’s design style. I think it is contemporary and gives the eye something to focus on. I also like how he used different textures and materials in the Obama ‘Hope’ Poster, and also the simplicity of the ‘obey the giant’ poster.

Education: Shepard Fairey graduated from Idyllwild Arts Academy in 1988. He then graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a bachelor of fine arts in illustration in 1992.

Employment: He is a contemporary artist, graphic designer, and illustrator. He is widely known for his Obama poster.

Assignment #1: Idioms January 18, 2011

Filed under: Assignments — Ashley Machost @ 6:18 pm

In this assignment we were tasked to create an image to show an idiom  visually. This Pictures that I created depicts Jesus wearing  sunglasses and a name tag with the name ‘Fred’ on it. I made  this to create a visual for the idiom “a blessing in disguise”.
